United grows in telecoms with $44m reseller deal

United Utilities-owned telecoms provider Your Communications has acquired corporate telecoms reseller Eurocall for ~$44 million.

In a move designed to gain access to customers in the small business market, loss-making Your Communications will pay ~$31 million in cash immediately, with a further $12 million payable in two stages over the next 18 months. United Utilities expected to fund the acquisition from the post-tax cashflows of its enlarged Your Communications business over the next three years.

Hugh Logan, managing director of Your Communications, told Utility Week: 'We will transfer Eurocall's 15,000 customers on to our network, thus sweating our assets rather than building new network. This puts us closer in size to the likes of Colt and Energis,' he added.

John Roberts, chief executive of United Utilities, said: 'Our long-term strategy for the business remains unchanged. We will continue to develop Your Communications with a view to its disposal at a point in time when shareholder value can be maximised.'
